Most hoods are able to extract large volumes of air at varying rates from the kitchen to the outside if they vent into extractor pipes and hoses. There are however recirculation hoods for kitchens with features that do not allow the air to be pumped outside. These hoods are fitted with a grease or carbon filter which the air is pulled through and cleaned before being returned to the kitchen.
